Traditional Chinese Medicine for Pain Relief
Alternative therapies are increasingly popular because they are accessible, safe, and effective. Acupressure is an alternative therapy that works to relieve symptoms from a wide range of ailments.
Rooted in Chinese and Indian medicine, acupressure massage can help to relieve pain in specific body areas. Acupressure is a popular choice for people who prefer to ease pain naturally instead of medication. We perform acupressure to bring relief from pain by pressing into the body’s pressure points. It improves blood circulation and relieves pain from soft tissue injuries.
Acupressure is an alternative therapy that uses the thumbs and fingers to apply pressure to specific points on the body. Unlike some Western medicine techniques, it does not use invasive procedures. Acupressure is a safe and gentle way to help with pain, nausea, inflammation, and insomnia.
Acupressure Points and Massage
King Spa gives you the perfect treatment for your mind and body. You can combine one of our relaxing massages and therapeutic acupressure in one session. Together, they will leave you feeling both relaxed and revitalized.
Acupressure is a massage therapy based on the theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The massage therapists use finger pressure to mobilize chi, or life force energy, at specific spots on the body called acupoints.
The discovery of acupressure points has led to an effective way of releasing blocked energy in the body. By manipulating a particular pressure point, you can promote unobstructed chi flow in the body. Acupressure work by freeing up your energy pathways, improving your blood flow and boosting your vital energy.
What are specific health conditions relieved by acupressure?
Acupressure is a powerful tool to give you relief from some common ailments. Acupressure is used on stress, anxiety, headache, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, muscle tension, and many others. Various acupressure points promote relaxation, reduce pain, improve morning sickness, and help to relieve discomfort from a host of other health problems.
Acupressure may be effective in providing relief from the following health concerns:
- Muscular tension
- Common colds
- Arthritic pain
- Allergic rhinitis
- Nervous tension
- Menstrual pain
- Tennis elbow
- Nausea and vomiting
- Muscular fatigue
Acupressure works by balancing out your energy and blood circulation to feel better. Certain types of pain are linked to feelings of anxiety. Acupressure helps you release that anxiety so your body can heal itself. Even a single session helps you to feel physiological effects such as reduced pain and relief from motion sickness.
Acupressure is the science of applying pressure to points on the body that correspond to various internal organs and muscles. The belief is that when these points are blocked, it causes disease. Acupuncture helps unblock these areas and improve internal functioning.
If you’re having back and joint pain, you may have bad posture. Your neck is particularly susceptible to muscular tension and muscle spasm. Certain points between your neck and the top of your shoulders effectively help with pain relief. Acupressure work helps to improve blood flow and flush out toxins.
Acupressure can help you heal faster because it releases muscular tension and enhances the body’s life force energy. Acupressure’s ability to ease muscular tension, promote blood flow, and improve energy levels makes it an effective complement to your other treatment modalities.
Acupressure relieves pain without over the counter drugs. When pressure is applied to a specific point on the body to correspond to the region that is causing pain (for example, the head), the body will release blockages and help with pain relief. Acupressure also helps because the blood circulation within that area flows better by applying pressure to a corresponding point.
Another way to get rid of wrinkles is by doing acupressure. When combined with facial massage, acupressure helps tone the muscles of the face, which helps with the production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that helps keep your skin looking young and smooth. So, by toning your facial muscles, you can reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
Acupuncture is used to treat many health issues, including weak libido. Acupuncture practitioners believe that the root cause of low libido is an imbalance of energy in the body. If this energy flow is disrupted, it can cause serious health issues like heart and kidney problems. Acupuncture can help maintain proper energy flow, thus improving your stamina
It is believed that unblocking energy meridians helps make you calmer as your body is more capable of handling stress. It also increases blood circulation to your brain and promotes the release of endorphins, which are natural painkillers.
When used correctly, acupressure will alleviate pain and promote blood circulation. By applying pressure to certain points located on the skin, you can increase blood flow in your blood vessels. This increase in blood flow helps almost all organs in the body to perform optimally.
Acupressure helps to stimulate blood circulation and bring oxygen and fresh blood to hair follicles and the scalp, thereby promoting hair growth. Regularly working on some areas along the ear and face accelerates metabolism and relaxes muscles, benefiting your skin.
How does acupressure work?
Acupressure massage therapy stimulates the body’s own healing energy to prevent illness. When you press on certain points, it activates energy flow to a part of the body experiencing disease or discomfort and helps it heal more quickly.
Acupressure is a holistic healing practice that uses the body’s specific pressure points to release or manipulate qi (chi) (the body’s life force energy). A therapist applies pressure on the body to stimulate a particular area or organ of the body. It requires precision and expertise because there are 365 significant pressure points and over 650 individual pressure points.
There are two ways acupressure therapy works in treatment:
- Local Points: These are acupressure points where the patient is currently experiencing tension or pain. The client has to point out to the acupressure massage therapist the exact location of the pain so that the therapist can relieve the client’s discomfort.
- Trigger Points: These are standard acupressure points that the acupressure therapist stimulates to relieve pain or tension. This area could be far from where the client is currently experiencing pain.
There are several techniques used to regulate qi flow in your channels. For weak qi, you must tonify it. Blocked qi must be dispersed, and if your qi is too active, the massage therapist will apply the necessary pressure technique to calm it.
Our massage therapists at King Spa have years of experience providing acupressure sessions to clients of all ages. This procedure complements our other relaxing spa treatments such as mineral saunas, massages, facials, body scrubs and Korean baths.
Are the acupuncture points the same as acupressure points?
People who are hesitant to try acupuncture because of the needles involved in the therapy may try acupressure. Acupressure and acupressure use the same energy meridians to work around your health concerns.
Acupuncture and acupressure are both forms of Traditional Chinese medicine. They focus on Qi, which is the body’s energy. It is a life force considered the key to health and longevity. Qi is the vital energy found in all living things. It is the driving force behind our body’s natural healing ability. Acupuncture (using needles on acupuncture points) and acupressure (using the hands to exert pressure on acupressure points) are two ways to harness Qi. Studies show that using these methods can improve your digestive system and mood disorders.
Acupuncture involves needles that are inserted into the body. Acupressure is similar to acupuncture, but it’s needle-free and doesn’t have side effects.
Acupressure is a safe and simple way to heal yourself from the inside out.

What is Qi, and how does acupressure improves my energy flow?
Unlike Western medicine, which treats a specific condition or symptom, traditional Asian medicine looks at the entire body as an interconnected energy system. When this energy is flowing smoothly, good health is enjoyed. Suppose qi, or energy, becomes blocked due to trauma. In that case, acupressure is used to release qi and restore balance in the body.
To achieve health and happiness, qi must flow. It flows through channels in the body. Channels are also known as meridians. There are 12 channels linked to specific organs. There are also pressure points on meridians. Muscle tension improves when applying precise pressure on particular points, gates open, and qi flows without resistance.
The energy life force in the body is called qi. It is similar to blood—it is a continuous flow that sustains life. If qi does not flow properly, the affected part of the body will become weak and starved. The body responds by sending warning signs such as pain, muscular tension or inflammation. These symptoms are like alarm bells that tell you that something is not right.
Acupressure helps balance out your energy meridians, giving you long term health benefits.
